Born in China, arrived in Australia in 1990.

From 1988 – 2021 Hong has had 62 solo exhibitions in Australia, China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Italy, Hong Kong and the UK (London). 

Hong won Shirley Hannan National Portrait Prize 2002 and was a finalist of the Archibald Prize 2008, 2009, 2021; finalist of the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize 1996, 2010, 2014; finalist of the Dobell Prize of Drawing 2004.

Hong’s art works were collected widely around Australia and overseas, including the Government House of Victoria; Murdochs’ family; Supreme Court of Victoria; CBUS Foundation; Crown Casino Melbourne; Newcastle University; University of West Australia; the CQ University; Stanthorp Regional Art Gallery QLD; Safti Military Institute of Singapore… Hong was invited to do portraits for celebrities, like Dame Elisabeth Murdoch; Dr. Joseph Brown; the Hon. Linda Dessau AC; Sir Charles Court; Sir James Gobbo
