About “Love Life, Summer”
This painting was inspired by David Hockney’s work, on his swimming pool images.
“Here I am looking towards a larger-scale pool paradise and so there should be many different people in the painting. I thought of the Bondi Bath, home of the Bondi Icebergs … and I thought of it not only as material but as a subjective scenario design,” Li says.
“In this large work, I want to document the summer lives of Australians, their love, happiness and hope in a graphic way. I made a bold attempt at the primary colour and simplified and generalized the human figures.”
