Recurring themes in Nathan’s work are the human struggle to connect to each other and the world around us both physical and metaphysical.
“Absurd, comical and beautiful are some elements of the human condition I hope my art conveys,” he says.
“I start a painting my layering a few colours that to me work well together. The image develops by trial and error, gradually reaching a fork in the road so to speak. One leads to figurative the other to abstraction.”
Nathan takes a lot of inspiration from rust and scratches from steel objects like rubbish skips, finding a beauty and harmony in those marks, the flaking paint…the slow hand of time working away silently.
Nathan currently exhibits his work at The Hive Gallery in Ocean Grove. His works and contact details can be found on his Instagram page @nathanwilkinsonart
