Since childhood, my family and I have been going on holiday to Queenscliff. The charm of the town always captivated me, in particular its history and railway line. As a teenager, this interest translated into photographing railways all across the state. Now, at 18, I most enjoy capturing landscapes, architecture, and the stars. Because of this, Queenscliff is one of my favourite areas to photograph due to its combination of beautiful buildings, seascapes, and wonderful night skies.
Within my photography, I enjoy capturing long exposure and dramatic light in nighttime scenes, and in particular the relationship between natural and artificial light within landscape. When a massive thunderstorm rolled over the bay last summer, I jumped at the opportunity and rushed down to the Queenscliff Pier. Accompanied by a few brave fishermen and some fierce sea winds we witnessed mother nature’s lightshow as it cruised down the bay, by a stroke of luck narrowly missing the Bellarine. On the topic of luck, my image of lightning cracking down over the ocean was the last taken before my camera died in the early hours of the morning. I hope my photography highlights the dramatic scenes that the environment around us holds, and on a personal level allows each of us to discover the awe and wonderment of place.
