Joanna Mckerrell

Joanna’s art is inspired by the quiet power of the coast, where light dances, water moves, and stillness can be felt even in motion. Rooted in nature and guided by feeling, she paints from a place of deep connection to the sea, to self, and to the spaces in between.

Joanna was born in Broadstairs, a small seaside town in Kent, England, where she grew up by the ocean. From an early age, she was moved by the rhythm and mood of the sea, its quiet strength, shifting light, and ever-changing movement. That connection continues to shape her creative voice.

Now based in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, she paints oil on canvas, drawing from both photographs and memory. Joanna painted for five years while living in Norwich, UK, before relocating to Geelong with her family. She is also a general practitioner and a mother, roles that call for presence, care, and resilience. Painting offers her a space for stillness and reflection. It allows her to slow down, connect with nature, and move through life more lightly and mindfully.

Through her work, she hopes to share the sense of calm and connection that painting gives her, capturing not just the view, but the feeling of being near the water. Works are available for purchase, and Joanna also welcomes commissioned pieces that hold personal meaning, please contact her directly for enquiries.
