Mr Fisch Jewellery & Sculpture had its humble beginnings in 2000, in the dining room of the Fisch family home in The Basin, Melbourne. The furniture was removed, the carpet ripped up, a makeshift curtain hung and jewellery-making equipment installed. And shazam… Ralf had himself a jewellery manufacturing workshop, and the family no longer had a dining room!
Over the next few years, Ralf’s reputation as an artistic, creative and reliable jeweller began to spread, and his clientele grew rapidly. Eventually, the little home workshop could no longer contain the business.
With his wife Francine and their four young children at the centre of his world, Ralf was determined not to waste precious family time commuting. So, when it came time to find a proper home for the business, staying local was an easy decision.
In early 2003, the quaint strip of shops along Mountain Highway in The Basin became home to Ralf Fisch Fine Jewellery.
Ralf concentrated on what he loved most, designing and handcrafting beautiful jewellery while Francine took on the administration and helped build the business alongside him. Together, they created something that was as much a part of their family as it was a jewellery workshop.
The children grew up around the shop. Afternoons often meant sausage rolls and Milo at the office desk before heading off to ballet, tennis, music or basketball. Homework was tackled between customers, and there was even an old upright piano in the shop for piano practice. The piano may no longer be there, but it is still very much part of the family.
As the children grew, so did Ralf Fisch Fine Jewellery.
Now more than two decades later, the little business that began in a dining room has developed a clientele of over 10,000, with many customers returning through different chapters of their lives, from engagement rings and wedding bands to anniversary pieces, redesigns and jewellery created for the next generation.
In 2023, the business became Mr Fisch Jewellery & Sculpture, reflecting Ralf’s creativity beyond jewellery and his passion for creating sculptural and artistic works.
Despite the years that have passed, the philosophy behind Mr Fisch remains much the same as it was in that makeshift workshop back in 2000: creativity, craftsmanship, individuality and a genuine connection with the people each piece is made for.
Today, Ralf and Francine continue to create exceptional, individual pieces from The Basin. Still local, still family-run, and still very much committed to craftmanship, creativity and warm, personal service that have been at the heart of Mr Fisch from the very beginning.
